FITZ ROY HIKE.

Not feeling any pain from yesterday's hike I was ready to attack Fitz Roy. This time being well prepared for another 23km hike, I had a sandwich and 375ml of water for the two of us seasoned hikers.
Was a little uphill for the first 2km and then fairly flat till the very last kilometre. After 4km you came to an overlook of Fitzgerald Roy in all his glory and it was absolutely stunning sight. Not having a preconceived image in my head , I was blown away. As these trips are never planned far in advance I don't really know what to expect and don't look at pictures of it , otherwise why bother going, well that's my theory.

I waited for Charmain for forty five minutes and she did not show so I moved on, livid that she did not even make it to there to view this iconic sight, really eat at me. Why would you come all this way and not hike four kilometres to see this, that's just lame. I was seething and it really got to me and I tried to forget about it, but couldn't let go of it.
Was relatively flat for the next five kilometres , hiking through some forest areas and along rivers and watching the beast approach closer and closer with every step.Passed through a campground and river and got to the 9km mark, from which it rises 400 metres in the last kilometre and everyone takes their last rest. And guess who's sitting there, Charmain ! Man I was so happy and astounded seeing her sitting there. She had taken a fork to another lake and then it joined back on to the trail, thats what happens when you fork off on the wrong trail. What a relief knowing she hadn't fallen off the trail or had been eaten by a Puma gave time the energy to do the last kilometre in forty five minutes and it was brutal, but nothing like Machu Pichu which was exhaustively brutal at 12K feet and that was straight up.

Got to the top and was well worth every minute and was just unbelievable being right there. Took me the same amount of time to hike down, Charmain hiked back on her own. My knees were in serious pain the last four kilometres or maybe last six, but worth every ounce of pain.It was one of the most stunning hikes I have ever done and I forgot to mention that it was a perfect clear day with absolutely no clouds and a brilliant blue sky, crystal clear.
A litre of Quilmes was consumed and then went out for an amazing meal and then bed !
