HUARAZ 8 - 13 March 2018

Got a cab to the airport where we picked up our Toyota Yaris rental car for our trip to Huaraz which is 400 km north of Lima. Made it out of Lima unscathed and took the Pan American Highway north and took about seven hours.
We got an apartment, on the fourth floor again with no elevator and a view over the city. Did a day trip up to Mount Pastoruri and then continued over the pass which is all dirt and ended up in some snow and was pretty rough in a car. Then ended on an asphalt main road and the drove through the valley and back up a pass for hours and back to Huaraz.
The following day we drove to San Marcos which is over a 68 km pass and up to 4500 meters and then visited Chain Archeological Monument built in 800 BC.

On Saturday we hung out in the plaza and then went for lunch at Andino Cafe and I just happened to look over the balcony below to see two adventure bikes and it was Paul and Neake, the Aussies we were with in Lima, and I yelled down a couple times at Paul as he still had his helmet on  and Neake looked up in disbelief. They got a place to stay and then came back and we had some food and libation.

Next day I woke up, thankfully, and I was sixty years old. I went for a hike to Churup Lake which is 18 km drive and then a two hour hike at 4000 metres, I struggled a bit with the altitude and then came right and took two hours  and was a beautiful day in the mountains .
Went to Andino's for the big celebratory dinner with Paul and Neake and had a great evening.
Willcacocha Lake was a two hour hike and from the top you can see the White Mountain Range and it's 15 peaks and was another gorgeous day and then like every other day it thunderstorms in the late afternoon. Tomorrow we head north to Caraz which is 69 km away.
