DAKAR - PISCO -PISCO

DAKAR -  Pisco - Pisco

Had another guy join us today who was going to go view some sea lions but decided to take me up on my invite.
Watched from a few viewing points and was amazing to see all of them barreling through  the turns at unbelievable  speeds.Hitched back to the bivouac, en route the guy picked up a beer vendor and it was a three beer journey.
Brandon and I entered the bivouac through a hole in the fence and then bumped into Hennie de Klerk again and he invited us into his stall which was entertaining and had nice cold beverages.
We chatted with a few of the Moto Mollies one being South African, these guys have no support and have to do all the work on their bikes themselves every day , so they have a special enclosure where they work.
After checking out all the teams Brandon finally convinced me to leave, where we found our two other gusts at the beer tent. I hitched back to fetch my car and back to our hotel and we went back to the same place eat and a ceveca.

PISCO - SAN JUAN DE MARCONA

Left early to go see a special stage in the boonies , after getting stuck we moved to another position ten kilometers away which was at a check point.
We walked to a great spot to see them in the sand at full speed. Unfortunately #22 a Czech rider Ondre crashed about 200 metres from us, we ran to assist as there was no one else around, he was unconscious groaning. We shaded him with the flag and cleared some sand so he could breathe. The police arrived and some other spectators and the chopper took forever to arrive. The doctors then did their thing for at least forty five minutes and then flew him out.
Not a pleasant experience. Come to find out he broke three vertebrae. He was wearing a Leatt neck brace which was real hard to remove but finally got it off.

Watched all the teams come in and the top guys are just so far superior to the normal guys. Wessel Bosman was the last bike to come in and saw my flag and came over to me , he was lost , I showed him where to go and he looked exhausted.
We then drove to another spot which was in the dunes and managed to see some stragglers. We then headed for San Juan De Marcona to spend the night on the beach  with Piki Piki and the Brits, Susie and Kelvin. We didn't bother to pitch our tents and just slept under the stars and Creg slept in the car.

San Juan de Marcona  - San Juan de Marcona   Stage 4    9-1-18

We decided to go watch them start on the beach, ninety kilometers away and we'll worth the trip.Missed most the bikes but Wessel was there the last bike to start and I tried to give him some encouragement while I chatted with him.
The Peugeots and Toyota's were fun to watch plus the trucks and quads.
So weird people ask us all the time for our pictures with the flag and are so friendly and kind wherever we go.
All three of us then went for a swim which really rejuvenated the body, cause it has been boiling everyday.
Drove back and then sadly had to bid Creg good bye as he was headed  to Cusco by bus. We camped another night on the beach.

San Juan de Marcona - Arequipa  Stage 5.   10- 1-18

We were up early and said our good bye's  to our new friends with which we had so many laughs and great stories. Arequipa is eight hours away so we stopped for an hour at one starting  stage and was fortunate to talk to Hennie and Gils about yesterday's stage in the sand where they both got stuck for hours.
The drive south hugs the coast for over two hundred kilometers with some spectacular scenery. We arrived after eight and found a dandy of a place to stay.
